  • The Cynefin ™ Complexity framework is one of the most quoted and applied frameworks for environments characterised by uncertainty, diversity of opinions, multiple perspectives and options, limited resources and rapidly shifting and competing priorities

  • Your workshop practitioners have used the Cynefin ™ framework and associated methods in organisations as diverse as Federal and State government Departments and agencies, Australian and international NGO’s and aid organisations, in banking and finance, defence, and pharmaceutical, universities, utilities, and community organisations.

 

The course has two components:

  • Cynefin™ Practitioners Foundations Course – 2 days

  • Cynefin™ in Action – Innovation and Collaboration – 1 day

 
Cynefin™ Practitioners Foundations Course – 2 days

This workshop will

  • Build on the basics outlined in the Harvard Business Review article ‘A Leaders framework for Decision Making,’ D Snowden and M Boone;

  • Explore in depth the principles of complexity, and the fundamental language and concepts for understanding and taking action in complex environments.

  • Specifically, this workshop will include

    • The principles of complexity and complexity thinking.

    • Exploration of Cynefin™ framework in depth, and applications different settings and contexts, and for different issues and challenges.

    • Working with foundational Cognitive Edge facilitation methods, for strategic and operational applications.

The tools and methods are part of the online Cynefin™ Foundations course, access to which is included with your fee for this course.

 

The Practitioner Foundations Course Learning Outcomes
  • The ability to describe the framework, its origins and principles and how and when to use it

  • Hands-on experience in thinking through Cynefin™ applications –in areas such as

    • organisational change and transformation,

    • improving decision-making, and

    • creating the conditions for leadership effectiveness, engagement, collaboration and innovation.

 
The Workshop Process
  • The workshop will be facilitated by practitioners highly experienced in harnessing the ideas and activities covered in the online Cynefin™ Foundations course.

  • Small and large group processes and activities are designed to maximise the learning, which will be captured and shared at the conclusion of the workshop.

Cynefin™  in Action - How to boost Innovation and Collaboration – 1 day

This  one day workshop extends skills and capabilities in applying the Cynefin™ complexity framework and associated methods in areas such as

  • Partnering and collaboration – across silos, within and between organisations, with communities and multiple stakeholders

  • Maximising engagement and maintaining momentum

  • Embracing and leveraging diverse perspectives

  • Undertaking innovation in context

  • Designing, monitoring and measuring the impact of change strategies

The workshop process will…

Be based on complex facilitation principles and processes and

  • Assume a working knowledge of the Cynefin™ framework

  • Create the agenda based issues on the interest and concerns of the participants

  • Be highly experiential, with participants practicing the facilitation of the selected methods

  • Use the tools and methods available in the ‘On Line Foundations’ course

 

At the conclusion of the workshop will be able to
  • Articulate the difference between traditional and complex methods, and Integrate complex methods and facilitation processes into their existing practice

  • Design and facilitate processes appropriate to their context
