Multicultural Development Association (MDA) is Queensland’s largest specialist multicultural agencies, working with newly arrived individuals and families from refugee and migrant backgrounds, and their local communities. MDA is committed to achieving the best settlement outcomes for their client and actively promotes diversity.
MDA philosophy and practice is concerned with ensuring pathways to full participation, to support v to continuing successful multiculturalism. In line with this, it implemented a Sensemaker™ research based on wanting to understand the perceptions and attitudes of new arrivers to Queensland on their experience of living in Queensland. The research identified important factors for recent arrivers in further wanting to stay in Queensland and got new insights on ways it can improve the situation so they can help support the settlement outcome.
Narratives from individuals who had recently been settled as well as those who had been living for some years were interviewed. Interviews were conducted in areas such as Brisbane, Logan and Rockhampton.
Insights from the project have influenced policy and practice.
